Book Review: “The Practical Guide to Patchwork”

Practical Guide to PatchworkPortlander Elizabeth Hartman‘s new book “The Practical Guide to Patchwork: New Basics for the Modern Quiltmaker” belongs on every quilter’s bookshelf.  A self-taught quiltmaker, Elizabeth explains every aspect of the quilt-making process from basic supplies and color theory to piecing and assembly.  Quilt patterns are organized from beginner to advanced with a nice selection of patterns for each level.  The photographs are beautiful, and the fabrics are fresh and inspiring.  Our favorite part of Elizabeth’s book is the “Alternate Ideas” section at the end of each quilt pattern; it’s so helpful to see a pattern redone with different colors to get your creative wheels turning.
