At the Portland Modern Quilt Guild meeting this month, we met Kristen MacDonald, a graphic design teacher with an abundant knowledge of color theory. She gave a 30 minute presentation about color theory for quilters that focused on abandoning the traditional color wheel in favor of a more 3-dimensional view of color. Needless to say, she’s got a sharp eye. Just look at that beauty to the left. The quilt was one of about 50 entries to the Modern Quilt Guild’s first quilting challenge: to make a quilt based on the inspiration of your choice. You can read more about the challenge here. We’re excited to see what Kristen makes next, and we’re equally excited about the MQG’s Second Challenge: Monochromatic. They’re giving away a huge box of Kona solids to three winners. If you’re entering the challenge, what are you thinking about making?
